Corruption in the US to worsen under Trump
US President Donald Trump’s proposed policies will increase corruption and inequality across the country, says global watchdog Transparency International. The anti-graft watchdog said Wednesday that populist politicians like Trump and French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen will bring about corruption and social inequality in societies.
Such autocratic leaders often weaken democracies, reinforce crackdown on civil societies and limit freedom of the press, the Berlin-based group said. “In the case of Donald Trump, the first signs of such a betrayal of his promises are already there,” TI’s research chief Finn Heinrich wrote in a blog about the report. TI generally defines corruption as “the misuse of public power for private benefit.”
Trump has spoken about “rolling back key anti-corruption legislation and ignoring potential conflicts of interest that will exacerbate, not control, corruption,” he noted. The US has already fallen two places in the group’s latest annual Corruption Perceptions Index, ranking 18th on the list with a score of 74 out of 100.
Denmark and New Zealand came out best in 2016, with scores of 90. Somalia remained the worst performer with a score of 10. The TI report came two days after constitutional and ethics lawyers lodged a lawsuit, saying that Trump was “submerged in conflicts of interest.” Trump, however, dismissed the allegations, saying the suit filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington was “without merit.”
Trump was one of the most unpopular candidates ever elected as president, according to opinion polls. During his campaign, he made controversial remarks about Muslims, undocumented immigrants as well as African Americans. A recent Gallup poll found that 45 percent of Americans disapproved of the way Trump was handling his new job as president, while the same percentage approved of Trump’s job.

Southern Cameroons Crisis: Consortium seeking UN, EU resolution against La Republique
The Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium is reportedly drafting a document that will push for a UN resolution slamming the Biya Francophone regime for systematic unlawful killings of Southern Cameroonians since 2016. Our correspondent in Paris has gotten intelligence that some Southern Cameroonian legal practitioners will be meeting a group of French lawyers this coming week in a bid to begin legal proceedings against the Yaoundé government.
Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that the resolution and the proceedings will include travel bans on senior government and military officials of La Republique du Cameroun. Inside sources say the group of French and Southern Cameroons advocates will be targeting the Director of the Civil Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Martin Belinga Eboutou, the Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, Minister Atanga Nji, Prime Minister Philemon Yang and General Rene Meka.
We understand that some Anglophone lawyers based in the US have been contacted to join the team in Paris. The lawyers are expected to pressure France and the European Union to charge the Francophone regime with excessive and intentional force without justification against Southern Cameroons civilians including against Anglophone lawyers, journalists, activists and peaceful protesters.
Cases of deliberate fatal shooting of individuals who posed no imminent danger to life are being assembled by the group. Southern Cameroons has become so uninhabitable that many of its residents are migrating to French Cameroun and some to neighboring Nigeria.

Policy not politics will resolve Cameroon’s internal debt issues
The Minister of Finance Alamine Ousmane Mey has chaired the annual conference of officials of the central and external services of the Ministry of Finance. Ousmane Mey revealed that some areas within his department were in need of some form of structural adjustments. The Biya acolyte identified excessive debt as one of them.
He said the ministry of finance will in 2017; ensure that investment will not hinder growth. The CPDM regime plans to rely on contributions from financial vote holders to finance development projects without necessarily consuming public resources. The Minister recommended that public and external debts be maintained at reasonable levels. He identified the mobilization of tax revenue as means of sustaining the country’s internal debt.
Alamine Ousmane Mey said finance officials should be more vigilant and discipline in the handling of public expenditures. The Finance minister expressed satisfaction at the elasticity of the domestic economy. Between 2010/2015, the Cameroon’s internal debt has increased from 1904 billion to 4489 billion FCFA representing 26.7%n Gross Domestic Product.

Anglophone Crisis: Cardinal Tumi condemns arrest of Consortium leaders
Cardinal Christian Tumi has called on the ruling CPDM government to listen to all shades of opinion in the ongoing Anglophone crisis. The 86 year old former Archbishop of Douala now retired made the declaration as guest on Radio France International on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The renowned Prelate believes that everyone has something to say.
Reacting to the crisis that has rocked the Anglophone regions of the country over the last two months and the shutting down of internet services including the arrest of several Southern Cameroons leaders , the Cardinal said he was trying to understand both sides of the divide.
“I am trying to understand what is happening because I spent nearly thirty years of my life as priest and bishop in French-speaking Cameroon and I am from Anglophone Cameroon. I try to understand both sides. It is now young people, who have not yet become aware of reunification and have started to protest about working conditions, the conditions for living together, and they want us to go back to where we were at the beginning of reunification. That is federalism. The central power no longer wants this. So this is where we are and there is tension.”
The Roman Catholic Cardinal told RFI that the appointment of Francophone judges who do not have a mastery of the English language and who render their judgment in French is an indication that Common Law is not applied in Cameroon. The man of God pointed out that in his native constituency of Bui, the prefect, the sub-prefect and the first deputy are all Francophones, in a region that 99% of the population speak only English. The Retired Cardinal also noted that there are Francophone university lecturers who teach in the Anglo-Saxon Universities of Buea and Bamenda without having mastery of English. “There is need to reform the education system.’
Cardinal Tumi said the decision to outlaw the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium was ill advised. “Too bad. I am against any ban. Everyone has something to say, listen to them. There is no one who loves this country more than others. Even if others prefer federalism, let’s talk about it, to see what is best for everyone. When we repress, it is not a solution. We must try to convince them including those that have gone to the extreme to demand complete separation. There will always be extremists. But the majority of Anglophones want us to go back to where we were, that is, to federalism. They do not want separation, not at all.”
The Cardinal dismissed claims made by the Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakary observing that federalism is not division of a country. “The current system is showing its faults, with regard to corruption everywhere and we are seeing examples in the world where federated states are progressing well. There has to be dialogue because Anglophones are also Cameroonians. With violence, nothing is built, nothing at all.”

US President Trump says Clinton won popular vote because of millions of illegal immigrants
US President Donald Trump has claimed that he would have won the popular vote if it were not for the millions of “illegal” immigrants who voted for his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Trump made the claim in a private meeting with Democratic and Republican leaders at the White House on Monday night.
“He said 3-5 million ‘illegals’ voted so that’s why he lost popular vote,” said a Democratic aide, who was present at the meeting. “That’s exactly what he said,” a second source familiar with the exchange confirmed. The Republican billionaire, who was inaugurated on Friday, scored about 3 million votes less than Clinton in their November 8 face-off. However, he was able to seal the victory by winning the Electoral College vote, 304-227.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy alluded to the issue, saying that Trump discussed “the different Electoral College, popular vote” with the lawmakers. Trump had made similar claims in the past, writing in a late November tweet that he would have won the popular vote “if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.” The outcome of the recent presidential vote has been questioned by both sides of the aisle, with Democrats blaming their defeat on foreign influence and Republicans raising the possibility of voter fraud.
The dispute ran so deep that defeated Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein filed recount requests in the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The recount in Wisconsin confirmed Trump’s victory and did not change Stein’s standing at the bottom. Her bid for the recount of 5 million ballots in Michigan was blocked by a court. She later dropped her bid in Pennsylvania.
This is while, Trump warned of voter fraud throughout the presidential campaign, telling his supporters that the election had been “rigged” against him and he would only accept the results if he came out as the winner. On Election Day, Trump complained that the media were not covering “serious voter fraud” in California, New Hampshire and Virginia.

Southern Cameroons Crisis: Consortium’s anti 11 February machine is already in place
The Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium has made a public assessment of the strike action currently going on in British Southern Cameroons. The West Cameroon body says the struggle against Francophone marginalization and the restoration of the sate of Southern Cameroons is a winning struggle bigger than any individual.
In a statement issued from the Consortium’s European headquarters, the interim leaders opined that there is no easy walk to freedom. “Threats will come, good friends will fall off, families will be discouraged but the restoration of West Cameroon statehood is bigger than any of us.”
The leaders also called on Southern Cameroonians to remain steadfast and defiant. ‘Don’t allow any threats, friends or family deviate you from reaching our collective goal. If this happens, pluck it/them off. This is a liberation struggle and not a democratic process.”
The leaders further pointed out that in a struggle there is no second opinion. “You are either with us for the restoration of West Cameroon statehood or you are against.” The leaders expressed satisfaction and praised West Cameroonians for rallying behind the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium to get back their country. The Consortium press release reaffirmed that the civil disobedience campaign will continue for a month and will hold every Mondays and Tuesdays to send a strong message to the colonial government.
Correspondingly, schools will remain closed until all Southern Cameroonian citizens arrested are released unconditionally for genuine dialogue to take place. Southern Cameroonians have also been reminded that anyone going against the struggle will be considered a black leg and a traitor and will be treated as such.
The Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium has declared 11th of February a black day and the leaders say Southern Cameroonians should be preparing to stage the biggest boycott and ghost town in its history to finally destroy the ancestral link our parents added unto us by the fake union with La Republique.

Netanyahu faces more probes over corruption
Israeli police have extended the scope of their investigation into allegations of corruption against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The police are examining two new issues related to graft charges against Netanyahu, including his alleged role in the purchasing of Dolphine submarines from Germany and another issue which has not been disclosed yet, Channel 10 television reported on Monday.
Netanyahu’s cousin, family lawyer and confidant, David Shimron, has reportedly been involved in the deal to purchase the submarines from Germany’s ThyssenKrupp company. Netanyahu is currently under investigation for several separate charges of corruption and has been grilled by police twice in recent weeks. The investigation has come as a shock to Israel’s political scene, prompting speculations about Netanyahu’s resignation.
Netanyahu, however, has denied the allegations and accused Israeli media of “pursuing an unprecedented campaign against me in order to bring down Likud government.” On January 14, protesters gathered on the streets of Tel Aviv, calling for the resignation of Netanyahu over growing allegations of corruption.
One part of the investigation involves him allegedly proposing commercial favors to an Israeli newspaper owner in return for positive coverage. Last week, a recording emerged of Netanyahu offering the owner of the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper a reduction in the circulation of the pro-Netanyahu newspaper, Israel Hayom, if Arnon Mozes’ paper took a more favorable stance towards him. A drop in the circulation of Hayom would be a direct benefit to Mozes as it is his main rival in advertising revenues.
Another investigation is related to charges of receiving illegal donations and gifts amounting to around some $100,000 in cigars and alcoholic beverages. He is also under investigation over suspicions that he accepted one million euros (about 1.1 million dollars) from French fraudster, Arnaud Mimran, for campaign funds during the 2009 Israeli elections. The Netanyahu family has faced scrutiny over accusations that their lifestyle is out of touch with regular Israelis. Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, has also come under fire for her lavish tastes and abusive behavior toward members of her housekeeping staff.

PAUL BIYA’S COMMISSION ON BILINGUALISM: THE END TIMES OF A FAILED UNION
The non-respect of the bilingual, bijural and bicultural character of Cameroon presented by the Anglophone Consortium of Civil Society associations was one among a plethora proofs that a supposed union that was contemplated in 1961 between the Southern Cameroons and the Republic of Cameroun had failed. The Consortium in taking this position was merely conveying the position of a majority of the people of the Southern Cameroons who alone voted in a plebiscite to attain independence by joining the Republic of Cameroun in Federal Union founded on the equality of the two states.
Whereas the non-violability of the federal character of the country was enshrined in article 47 of the supposed federal constitution, other provisions of the constitutions protected the bijural, bicultural and bilingual nature of the federation; re-enforcing the sacrosanct character of this inviolability clause. History will hold Babatoura Ahmadou Ahidjo and Paul Biya responsible for their treasonable conduct in destroying this fundamental basis on which this experiment was anchored.
Southern Cameroonians are justified in holding firmly that with the collapse of the purported federation, the bilingual, bijural and bicultural character of the country, and a return in 1984 of East Cameroon to its name and identity at independence on January 1960, the putative union was dead. They were entitled as a matter of international law, to regain their own identity at independence on October 1, 1961.
The actions by Paul Biya in disbanding the Consortium, kidnapping its leaders and other significant Southern Cameroon leaders and charging them on spurious politically motivated charges before a Francophone court-martial for presenting the very grievances which he has trivialized by decreeing a so-called National Commission on Bilingualism are to say the least infantile and laughable. Not only are the Consortium Leaders, Barrister Felix Agbor Nkongho and Dr Neba Fontem along with Mancho Bibixy, Hon Justice Chief Paul Ayah, Mola Njoh Litumbe and hundreds of Southern Cameroonians still in detention, the perpetration of widespread and systemic crimes against humanity and genocide of the Southern Cameroons is ongoing with impunity.
In this situation, the question may be asked, for what purpose is a so-called Commission on bilingualism wrapped in the blood of Southern Cameroonians when there is an internet blockade of the territory, egregious crimes and violations against armless civilians, the continuing detention and trial of its citizens? Of what importance we may ask, is a supposed decree creating a consultative Commission on bilingualism when Mr. Paul Biya the supposed guarantor of the Constitution has over the past 34 years failed to enforce the Constitutional provision on bilingualism. So therefore, in the estimation of Mr. Biya a right which the Constitution has failed to afford at the detriment of Southern Cameroonians will be obtained by a mere decree?
So for Mr. Paul Biya has come to the conclusion that Southern Cameroonians have become so malleable, gullible and dispensable to the extent that not satisfied with the crimes that have claimed the lives of many, the impunity with which these crimes are perpetrated, he, through this ridiculous commission intends to move a step further in dancing on the graves of the slaughtered and spitting in the mouths of the kidnapped and the detained?.
This decree is a belated admission of failure and a public confession of Mr. Paul Biya’s treasonable violation of his own Constitution over 34 years for which he should be arrested and prosecuted.
The so-called Commission established by decree is a nullity and of no legal value whatsoever because it cannot and will never attain the results which the failed Constitution failed to attain. If anything, considered within the backdrop of the resistance of the Southern Cameroons against annexation and colonial rule, this decree along with the consistent pattern of crimes, systemic violations and the bastardization of our cultural values, this decree is one among many actions taken by Paul Biya to give effect to the end of the putative union as we know it.
