Unconfirmed reports suggest Biya to visit Bamenda

Reports from Yaoundé, the nation’s capital have suggested a visit to Bamenda by President Biya. The very flippant but reliable source noted that the 84 year old leader is under considerable pressure from the French and British governments to open genuine dialogue with the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium. Cameroon Intelligence Report also gathered that Biya’s marginalization of the Anglophone communities has been nothing but deliberate.

There have also been under-the-table talks of him planning to reshuffle the Philemon Yang administration and also replacing the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Djibril. The date for the Biya’s visit to the Bamenda province of Southern Cameroons has not been made public. However, the operation managers of the Consortium have reportedly mapped out a strategy for a massive ghost operation to welcome the Cameroonian dictator in West Cameroon.

Consortium sources also announced recently that the resistance wall has gone 5 meters higher as the Biya regime is slowly but surely losing its grip on Southern Cameroons. A top Anglophone academic contacted by our London Bureau Chief pointed out that Biya’s traveling to Bamenda may be considered by the Consortium as an act of provocation and might culminate to attempts being made on his life.

Troops loyal to the regime in Yaoundé have killed scores of innocent Southern Cameroonians and have detained hundreds in Francophone jails. Members of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR have raped dozens of university students in Buea and Bamenda with some reports stating that some of the girls have been infected with the HIV virus. In a bid to cover up the crimes committed in Southern Cameroons, Biya shut down internet services throughout the region.

The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Development Program System, Najat Rochdi has come to the end of her mission to Cameroon. She held a farewell audience on the 8^th of March 2017 at the Presidency of the Republic with Minister Secretary General, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh on behalf of the Head of State.

The outgoing UN coordinator after the audience expressed satisfaction with achievements of the UN System which she partly attributed to the hospitality of the Cameroonian people. She leaves Cameroon after a four year diplomatic mission. Najat Rochdi has been appointed to the Central African Republic as Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Multi- Dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission MINUSCA and also as UN Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator, and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program UNDP.

The Secretary General also received in audience a Special Envoy of the President of Burkina Faso. Thierry Hot was bearer of a special message from President Rorc Marc Christian Kabore. Thierry Hot had served as a correspondent with the BBC and Africa 24.

Philemon Yang Bamenda Mission: Fru Ndi says trip was a successful failure

The Chairman of the Social Democratic Front has made public an assessment of Prime Minister Philemon Yang’s tour of the North West Region plagued by the Anglophone uprising. Fru Ndi told reporters that it is not with force that the Biya Francophone government would convince parents to send their children to school.

On the instruction of the President of the Republic, Prime Minister Philemon Yang traveled to the North West for a soothing tour. Since last Monday, the Head of the Government visited all the seven administrative constituencies that make up the Bamenda province of Southern Cameroons. Ni John Fru Ndi, said that the PM’s mission so far was not a success.

“I learned that the Prime Minister was in the city of Bamenda. He did not invite me and the observation that emerges is that the schools have not resumed! And it is not with force that teachers and students will return to the classrooms. The Prime Minister only ridiculed himself. He knows the problem and he just has to be truthful with the parents. They expected the head of the government to come and talk to them and ask for what they wanted. He did not do it. He came to say what Biya wanted Anglophones to do, to invite the parents and pupils to resume classes. This is not the way to go. The Government must engage in frank dialogue. I must say that Mr. Biya knows the problem of teachers and lawyers, “said Ni John Fru Ndi the leader of the SDF.

Philemon Yang’s scantily attended tour energizes the Southern Cameroons Revolution

Prime Minister Philemon Yang has completed his tour of the Bamenda province of Southern Cameroons some two months after his last visit to his home constituency. The Premier traveled to the region and made an ultimate plea for the resumption of schools in West Cameroon.

The Yang Philemon trip that took him to the seven divisional headquarters that make up the Bamenda province failed to yield the anticipated results. Southern Cameroonian groups who received the Head of Government challenged him to openly condemn the rapes, extra judicial killings and the numerous arrests and abductions currently going on in Southern Cameroons.

From Ngo-Kentungia to Boyo via Donga-Mantung and Menchum including Mezam, Momo, and Bui, Philemon Yang was treated like a common politician. Cameroon Concord News understands the Prime Minister’s visit has helped to energize the people’s revolution as schools have still not started.

It is hard to say who is really in charge in Yaoundé as the decision to travel to the North West came only after the Ministries in charge of Education, made public a statement that students and pupils, the strike notwithstanding, still have an opportunity to attend catch-up classes to cover-up for lost time.

The frustrated members of the Cameroon GCE Board, also met last week, and announced an extension for registration of the GCE. The Prime Minister’s trip to the North West Region therefore was another vain opportunity for schools to re-open. The Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium has applauded the people of Southern Cameroons for their resistance.

Trump rubbishes outdated CIA systems

The White House says US President Donald Trump believes that the CIA’s systems are outdated, after WikiLeaks released thousands of documents that reveal the agency’s hacking and spying secrets. “He believes that the systems at the CIA are outdated and need to be updated,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange denounced the CIA over its “devastating incompetence” for failing to protect its hacking secrets. “This is a historic act of devastating incompetence, to have created such an arsenal and then stored it all in one place,” Assange said during an online press conference from the Ecuadorean embassy in London where he took refuge in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden. “It is impossible to keep effective control of cyber weapons… If you build them, eventually you will lose them,” he added.

WikiLeaks offers CIA hacking tools to tech companies

Assange also said the whistleblower website will give tech companies details of the CIA hacking tools so that they can patch security holes. “Considering what we think is the best way to proceed and hearing these calls from some of the manufacturers, we have decided to work with them to give them some exclusive access to the additional technical details that we have so that the fixes can be developed and pushed out, so people can be secure,” he stated.

He said that WikiLeaks has a lot more information about the CIA hacking operations, but added that the whistleblower website will hold off on publishing the information until it will discuss ways of fixing the holes with tech manufacturers.

The CIA, meanwhile, issued a statement on Wednesday, publicly accusing WikiLeaks of “jeopardizing” the US national security and helping adversaries inflict harm on the United States over the leaks. “The American public should be deeply troubled by any WikiLeaks disclosure designed to damage the Intelligence Community’s ability to protect America against terrorists and other adversaries,” the statement said.

“Such disclosures not only jeopardize US personnel and operations, but also equip our adversaries with tools and information to do us harm,” it added.

‘US intelligence can turn a TV into listening device’

On Tuesday, WikiLeaks published nearly 9,000 documents it said were part of a huge trove leaked from the CIA. The explosive documents exposed by WikiLeaks showed that hackers of the US intelligence apparatus can turn a TV into a listening device, bypass popular encryption apps, and possibly control one’s car.

They also revealed that the agency has routinely used techniques that enable its hackers to disguise themselves as hacking groups based in Russia and other countries. However, the CIA rejected the notion that it spies on the American people, and insisted the agency’s mission is to “aggressively collect foreign intelligence overseas to protect America from terrorists, hostile nation states and other adversaries.”

US intelligence agencies have launched a criminal investigation into the publication of the secret files, with intelligence and law enforcement officials already pointing the finger at CIA contractors.

Yaounde: Dozens injured and three killed by train

Three people were killed on Wednesday night in Yaoundé, after being hit on the railway by a train. According to a statement from the Cameroon Railway Company, Camrail, a train returning from the rail renewal yard, at the entrance to the nation’s capital, Yaoundé crushed the three to death.

Our sources in Yaoundé hinted that the Camrail statement is “unsatisfactory” and that there was more to the story than the railway company was revealing. We gathered three bodies have been recovered from the train route and the many wounded have been rushed to a nearby hospital. Two of the three bodies have been deposited at the morgue of the Central Hospital in Yaoundé.

Securing the railway is a real problem in Cameroon. Many people, even some families have constructed settlements closely to the railway lines. This situation is not conducive to the optimum safety of railway traffic. Operating a railway transport system in a country where no one takes responsibility will surely record many more tragedies.

International Women’s Day: US women rally against Trump

Women have protested in the United States against President Donald Trump on International Women’s Day, with many Americans skipping work or boycotting stores. The protest on Wednesday, dubbed “A Day Without a Woman,” was modeled in part after pro-immigrant demonstrations against Trump’s immigration policies on February 16.

American women took advantage of the momentum of the Women’s March on Washington on January 21, the day after Trump’s inauguration. The protest was the latest in a series of anti-Trump rallies since his presidential election on November 8.

Protests were held in numerous American cities, including Washington, New York City and Los Angeles. Thousands of women attended the rallies in New York City. At least 13 protesters were arrested for “disorderly conduct” after sitting in the street near the Trump Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Nearly 1,000 women converged outside Los Angeles City Hall, many of them critical of Trump’s effort to repeal former president Barack Obama’s healthcare law.

About 1,500 people gathered in San Francisco, most dressed in symbolic red that has become one of the themes of the rally. Not all American women, however, support the call for a women’s strike, with some critics describing the movement’s aims as vague and disrupting the work day.

Trump took to his Twitter account on Wednesday to cite International Women’s Day and the “critical role” of women around the world. During the 2016 election campaign, Trump faced severe backlash over a leaked 2005 videotape that showed him using obscene language about women.

French Ambassador meets Biya: 34 years of annoying Southern Cameroonians

Paul BIYA has granted a two-hour audience to the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Gilles Thibault. Both personalities met at the Unity Palace on Wednesday 8 March 2017.

The Head of State and the French Diplomat held talks on a wide range of issues linked to the Franco-Cameroon relationship, which is part of the strategic partnership. Gilles Thibault told journalists at the end of the audience that they had in-depth exchanges on the importance of Cameroon’s security, humanitarian and economic commitment in the CEMAC sub-region. The extraordinary summit of CEMAC Heads of State, hosted by Cameroon in December 2016, was reviewed following a recent IMF mission to Cameroon.

A special focus was also laid on the French Development Agency’s aid to Cameroon. FCFA 125 billion have already been engaged for 2018. Ambassador Gilles Thibault said he congratulated President Paul BIYA on his efforts to fight against terrorism. He also lauded the successes of the Cameroonian Armed Forces in the fight against Boko Haram, in consensus with the Multinational Joint Tasked Force (MNJTF).

The French Ambassador to Cameroon briefed the Head of State on his tour to the various regions of Cameroon. “I also expressed my satisfaction to see an amelioration of the situation in the North West and South West regions, where dialogue seems to be producing good results,” he said. It was revealed that the political scene in France is of particular interest to the Cameroonian leader, who is following the campaigns of the upcoming presidential elections.

Lord Justice Paul Ayah Affair: Lawyers appeal for his immediate release

Lord Justice Paul Ayah Abine’s lawyers have appealed to the President of the High Court of the Mfoundi Yaoundé Administrative Center through a motion known as habeas corpus calling for his immediate release. The lawyers stated in their correspondence that the state prosecutor has violated Title X which clearly indicates the Privilege of Jurisdiction in Article 629 (1) and (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure:

“(1) Where a magistrate of the order is liable to be charged with an offense, the competent Attorney-General submits an application to the President of the Supreme Court appointing a magistrate to investigate the case and three , Of a rank at least equal to that of the third party, with a view to the possible judgment of the case in the first instance.

(2) The President of the Supreme Court shall further specify the city where the case is to be tried “.

Lord Justice Ayah’s arrest has undermined the reputation of Cameroon’s Justice Department as well as Cameroon’s criminal justice as it signaled a flagrant violation of the principles of the presumption of innocence.

Majority of French voters see Le Pen’s party as threat to democracy

A majority of French people believe that presidential candidate Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Front (FN) party is a danger to democracy, shows a recent poll. According to a Kantar Sofres-Onepoint poll published on Tuesday, 58 percent of those who took part were directly against the National Front’s ideas and perceived it as a threat to democracy.

Despite most polls projecting Le Pen’s success in the first round of the upcoming elections, only 19 percent of those in the Kantar poll are in favor of her becoming president. French presidential election candidate for the En Marche movement Emmanuel Macron poses for a photo session on March 7, 2017 at his campaign headquarters in Paris.

Recent opinion polls suggest that the far-right leader is likely to win the first round of France’s election on April 23 with around 27 percent of votes, but would lose in the run-off on May 7 either to centrist and pro-EU Emmanuel Macron or conservative candidate Francois Fillon.

Le Pen, well known for her anti-immigrant rhetoric, became the leader of the party in 2011 and has promised to hold a referendum on France’s exit from the EU. She launched her election bid earlier in the month with an anti-Islam stance. She has also noted that if she is elected as president, mosques and places of Islamic teaching will be closed down.

On Tuesday, Le Pen stressed that if she is elected as president but the nation votes to stay in the EU in the referendum, she would resign. “What would happen if I told voters we must leave and they decided to stay?” she said. “I would quit. What else can I do? My whole project can only be carried out if we get the tools and powers back (from the EU,)” she added.

On Monday, Outgoing President Francois Hollande said that he would “do everything” in his power to prevent Le Pen from becoming president.
