The 84 year old Cameroonian dictator, President Biya signed a series of decrees on Tuesday, the 27th of June 2017 appointing Rectors to some of the state owned institutions of higher learning. Mr. Biya sacked Prof. Nalova Lyonga as Vice Rector of the Anglosaxon university of Buea. She was replaced by Associate Professor Ngomo Horace Manga, who until this new appointment was the Secretary General in the Ministry of Higher Education. Ngomo Horace is a native of the Mundemba County in Southern Cameroons.
President Biya also gave a happy retirement package to Prof. Edward Ako Oben. The former Rector of the University of Maroua was made Pro Chancellor of the University of Buea, replacing Prof. Maurice Tchuente. The rectors of the Universities of Yaounde II and Ngaoundere were also fired. The Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium has dismissed the Biya maneuvers as a non event.
