Francophone Community gives Biya a befitting welcome in Rome

The Francophone Cameroonian community in Italy has warmly welcomed President Biya and his wife in Italy. They came in their numbers and joined Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic and gave the 84 year old dictator a befitting arrival ceremony in Rome.

Biya and Mattarella met in the afternoon yesterday Saturday, March 18, 2017 in Rome, the capital of Italy. Biya, accompanied by his wife Chantal Biya, were received on their arrival at the military airport in Rome by Italian officials.

Biya was applauded by many French speaking Cameroonians living in Italy and was escorted to the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria Hotel in the heart of the Italian capital by many members of the Francophone Cameroonian community in Italy, most of them militants and sympathizers of the ruling CPDM consortium of crime syndicates.

Paul Biya, who has in his official delegation five cabinet ministers, begins tomorrow Monday, March 20, 2017, a three-day state visit.

UN official says Mali security situation worrying

The security situation in Mali “remains worrying” despite recent troop deployments and some progress on the country’s peace accord, the head of the United Nations (UN)’s peacekeeping force said Saturday in Bamako.

“The overall security situation remains worrying. We are all too frequently attacked by armed groups,” Herve Ladsous said at a press conference. Deployed since July 2013, the UN’s 13,000-strong peacekeeping mission — the MINUSMA —has suffered one of the highest fatality rates of peacekeeping missions since the UN deployed to Somalia in 1993, with more than 70 Blue Helmets killed.

Ladsous further said, “The [peace] process is far from being achieved” despite the peace accord of June 2015 signed between Bamako and the groups that support it and the former Tuareg rebels in the north. The Imghad and Allies Tuareg Self-Defense Group (GATIA), which supports the central government in Bamako, signed the peace deal with state authorities and members of the country’s former rebel alliance.

Since the peace deal was signed, the GATIA has been accused of multiple ceasefire violations, and in September last year, US Ambassador Paul Folmsbee told the government it should “sever all ties” with the group.

Biya en route to Rome

As earlier announced, Paul Biya and wife Chantal left Cameroon yesterday for Rome, Italy for a three-day state visit. The dictator with too much Anglophone blood in his hands is leading a delegation that includes five members of his government.

The trip to Italy scheduled from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 March is in responds to an invitation from Sergio Mattarella, his Italian counterpart.

After Italy, Biya is expected to travel to the Peoples Republic of China following another invitation from Chinese leader Xi Jinping that was handed to the 84 year old on Friday, March 03, 2017, by Wei Wenhua, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Cameroon.

CIR News Alert: Hostel hosting Francophone students set on fire in Bamenda

A student hostel known in Cameroon as Mini Cite has been set ablaze by unknown Southern Cameroon militants in Bamenda, the chief city in the North West region. Intelligence sources say the building was home to some 85 Francophone students studying in Bamenda. In a similar development, the Principal of GBHS Nkambe came under attack and his car got burnt.

Our senior North West correspondent hinted that the population has started countering violence with violence as the army reportedly went door-to-door arresting young men and women and confiscating their mobile devices. Gun shots were heard late in the night in what has been described as a diabolic harsh ploy by the Biya regime to wipe out an entire generation of Southern Cameroonians.

Wife of Ghanaian International Michael Essien buys a third-division club in Italy

The wife of Ghanaian international Michael Essien, Akosua Puni, has bought a third-division club, Calcio Como in Italy. A statement published on the club’s website announced that the club now belongs to Mrs. Essien and will now bear the name of FC Como.

Details of the press release also revealed that Mrs Puni Essien and her team will soon be in Como to meet fans and supporters of the Club and that she is honored to be part of a club that has 110 years of history.

Mrs. Puni Essien, a British of Ghanaian origin, bought the club for 237 000 Euros at an auction. The price does not include the Calcio Como training center. Club Como was relegated last season to League B and is currently in seventh place in the playoffs.

Qataris own more of London than Her Majesty the Queen

A report published by a British newspaper has revealed that Qatari investors are in possession of more property in London than the city’s mayor and even the Queen. The Telegraph said in a Friday report that Qatar has become one of the biggest landlords in the British capital over the past ten years, currently owning 24 million square feet of the city’s prime real estate.

Data from the research firm Datscha indicated that Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) with almost 22 million square feet of space is the London’s largest property owner, three times more than that of the Queen with just under 7.3 million square feet.

The Qatari government also owns another 1.8 million square feet in the capital, putting the ownership ranking of the kingdom ahead of the City of London, Transport for London and Network Rail. Former head of the QIA, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani, said last year that London was a preferred destination and that the Qatari investment into the United Kingdom real estate sector to date had amounted to 30 billion British pounds.

Statistics show that foreign investors tend to invest in the five main London areas of Kensington, Knightsbridge, Mayfair, the City and Canary Wharf. Qatar’s QIA now owns the site of the Chelsea Barracks, the Olympic Village and the Shard, along with Canary Wharf which contains some of the city’s largest buildings. Qatari advisors on financial matters argue that UK property is seen as a safe haven for overseas money and Britain is still considered much safer than their own country.

Commission for the promotion of bilingualism: Toujours les mêmes gens

Officials of the National Commission for the promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism have been appointed through three presidential decrees signed on 15 March 2017. The former Prime Minister, Peter Mafany Musonge, became the pioneer President of the Commission while Oumarou Djika Saidou is vice president and 13 other people mostly drown from the civil society, professional groups and who have demonstrated a track record in their mastery of the multifaceted realities of Cameroon. Wednesday’s appointments followed Decree No. 2017/013 of 23 January 2017 to lay down the Establishment, Organization and Functioning of the National Commission for the promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, NCPBM, referred to as “the Commission.”

By putting in place the Commission members less than two months after the institution was created, President Paul Biya is keeping to a promise he made while addressing the nation on 31 December 2016 as he examined the state of the country at the end of the year. The New Year message equally offered him the opportunity, as usual, to present a perspective look at the year ahead, pointing out that the turn of events being taken by the sit-in strike started by Anglophone Teacher’s Trade Unions and the Common Law Lawyers warranted that our experiences as a people should be critically looked into and enhanced.

Obviously, there are people who might not have understood what the Head of State meant as he repeatedly talked of the need for Cameroonians to be tolerant with each other given that Cameroon is already on record as a haven of peace and stability and others admire the country for staying afloat over the years in spite of all odds. Yet, the mosaic of ethnic, religious, regional, and cultural groups that sum up to build the national entity, called Cameroon, require careful handling if the options of peace, unity and stability must be maintained.

It also lays bare the fact that issues affecting one part of the country are likely to have repercussions across the national territory as a painful finger that has the potential to affect the entire body. Conscious of the challenges at stake, President Paul Biya made the promise for an institutional framework to enable Cameroonians across the board table their grievances against things happening in the country for coordinated solutions to be provided whenever a group or a community has a bone to pick with their survival within the national triangle.

From the first consideration on the duties of the Commission, the Presidential decree states clearly that; “Under the authority of the President of the Republic, the Commission shall be responsible for promoting bilingualism and multiculturalism in Cameroon with a view to maintaining peace, consolidating the country’s national unity and strengthening its people’s willingness and day-to-day experience with respect to living together.” No matter the under pinning interpretations that people may make about the formation and composition of members of the commission, there is no gainsaying that the Head of State through the initiative is simply out to uphold national integrity, peace and unity in Cameroon so that the progress and development which all Cameroonians of goodwill keep yearning for can be achieved.

Those appoint into the Commission therefore, have an arduous task ahead to sink their differences and work for the common good of Cameroon so that the ardent desire for a peaceful Cameroon whereby all sons and daughters of this nation can live and work harmoniously should come to fruition. The simmering fact has been that even people clamouring for any advantages and proclaiming any form of disappointment with the country have hardly departed from their fervent attachment to national values and determination to see a better and prosperous Cameroon.

Boko Haram Leader says recent claims by Cameroon gov’t spokesman “fabricated”

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram, has once again made a video reappearance in which he denounced statements made by the Cameroon government as “lies” and attacked President Biya. In the 27-minute video, Abubakar Shekau, flanked by two masked militants, brandished his sub-machine-gun said in Kanuri, Hausa and Arabic that he was in good health contrary to allegations that he has been wounded.

Shekau denied statements by the Cameroon government spokesman, Issa Tchiroma Bakary that 5,000 hostages held by his sect were released during a special operation of the Cameroon-Nigerian coalition between 26 February and 7 March.

“We fought along the Cameroonian border. You lied by asserting that you killed 60 of our fighters, that you arrested 20 of our men, that you released 5,000 people, “Shekau said. Addressing the Cameroonian chief executive, Shekau stated that, “Paul Biya, you cannot live on liee. Can’t you stop lying? Is it with this that you will convince the West, your leaders? It’s a shame, be careful, Paul Biya.” He promised further attacks along the Cameroon border.

Since May 2014, Cameroon and the countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission have been confronting the Boko Haram terrorist group in a combine effort known as the Joint Multinational Force. On several occasions, the coalition has announced the military weakening of Boko Haram, which has pledged allegiance to the Organization of the Islamic State and is now called the Province of the Islamic State in West Africa.

Lord Justice Ayah Paul trial begins in Yaounde

Chief Justice Ayah Paul Abine, Advocate General at the Supreme Court and National President of People Action Party, PAP has told President at Mfoundi High Court that he was illegally arrested and detained in violation of the law of Cameroon. He made the statements Thursday March 16, 2017 in Yaoundé in front of Joseph Marie Nkeh President at the Mfoundi High Court while in a closed door court session in what was his first appearance before a Judge since his arrest last January.

Ayah Paul Abine began with the first illegality by quoting Section 119 (4) of the Penal Code which forbids the arrest of persons on the weekend. AYAH, it should be noted, was bundled out of his Tam-Tam residence by heavily armed men on Saturday January 21, 2017. Secondly, the Lord Justice cited Section 629 of the Criminal Procedure Code that clearly spells out the judicial procedures for a judge of his caliber to be arrested; prominent amongst which is the fact that three judges equal to or superior in rank to Justice AYAH were competent enough to form a panel to ONLY interrogate and not effect an arrest.

More so, for such a panel to be constituted, the order had to come through the Head of his department, in this case, the Attorney General of the Supreme Court. All of these procedures were flouted. The President of the PAP appeared in close session earlier at 11:00 AM before the Mfoundi High Court in the absence of the Commissioner who had to represent the state of Cameroon.

Regular Judicial proceedings warrant that AYAH’s lawyers should have been served with all documents pertaining to the case but that was not the case. It was at the court that the lawyers were told that Ayah Paul Abine was arrested and charged with terrorism, propagation of false information, rebellion to the embarrassment of his Lawyers who said they are only getting the charges at the moment.

Reports have it that Chief Justice AYAH’s judicial ‘homily’ got the President of the Mfoundi High Court nodding in the affirmative all through. It is also alleged that Justice Ayah Paul used the occasion to tell those present that he had strong feelings that Laurent Esso (Minister of Justice), Rene Emmanuel SADI (Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization), Jacque Fame NDONGO (Minister of Higher Education), Issa TCHIROMA BAKARY (Minister of Communication) in complicity with top notch Anglophones were behind the embarrassment of the state and massive arrests ongoing in the English speaking regions of the country.

Barrister Ndong Christopher has hinted that an appeal against the charges will be dropped in the office of the President of Mfoundi High Court following the irregularities in his arrest, they want his freedom soonest. However the case has been adjourned to March 21, 2017.

Douala CPDM man arrested for murdering a young girl and mutilating her genitals

A prominent CPDM militant has been arrested in Douala for murdering a girl and mutilating her genitals in the economic metropolis. Police sources revealed that he lured the girl into his apartment, had sex with her and then killed her. The man seen here but whose name was not disclosed by police removed organs from the girl’s body including what a spokesman for the Douala police described as “genitals”.

Rita Akana of the Cameroon Intelligence Report hinted that the alleged murderer arrested and currently being detained by security agents in Bonanjo, the administrative district of Douala is a chartered member of a gang involve in trafficking human organs. A security source who sued for anonymity said police also discovered 7 vaginas in his freezer. The neighbors who heard shouts from his apartment reportedly called in the police.

Organ traffic and ritual killings is rising in Cameroon. Many senior citizens are now involved in trafficking organs with the complicity of health personnel and doctors, for economic and financial purposes.
