Biya names Jean Nkuete to lead his 2025 presidential campaign
Paul Biya, President of Cameroon and head of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (RDPC), has appointed Jean Nkuete to coordinate his campaign for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October 12, 2025. The decision was made official in a note signed by the Head of State on August 1.
Already serving as Secretary-General of the RDPC Central Committee, Jean Nkuete now assumes the role of National Campaign Coordinator—an essential position that places him at the heart of the party’s electoral strategy for Biya’s re-election bid.
He will be supported by a deputy whose identity remains unclear. The statement refers only to the “Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Committee,” a title currently shared by Grégoire Owona and Hamadjoda Adjoudji, without specifying which one is involved.
The national campaign team also includes several prominent party members such as Gilbert Tsimi Evouna (RDPC treasurer and member of the political bureau), Sali Dairou, Geneviève Tjoues, Régina Mundi, and Bernard Wongolo, a former deputy secretary-general of the Senate who was recently dismissed over allegations of embezzlement.
The designated rapporteurs are Ndembiyembe Paul Célestin, Monkam Nitcheu Jean-Fabien, Oyono Dieudonné, Ndong Soumhet Benoît, and Fru Jonathan.
Notably absent from the 2025 campaign are some of the key figures from the 2018 team, including René Emmanuel Sadi, former secretary-general of the Central Committee, and Ebenezer Njoh Mouelle. Their exclusion could signal a strategic shift or an internal realignment within the party.
Regional and departmental commissions are expected to be formed in the coming days to complete the campaign structure. However, the most anticipated announcement remains that of the national campaign director. Following past precedent, Paul Biya may assign the role to his current Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute. Still, nothing has been confirmed so far.
Sources within government circles have also mentioned Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, Director of the Civil Cabinet at the Presidency, as another possible candidate for this key role.
For now, speculation continues within political circles as the country awaits the official confirmation of who will lead President Biya’s campaign on the ground.
