Members of the 10th Mountain Division’s First Brigade Combat Team returned to Fort Drum yesterday from a six-month deployment to Cameroon. They were part of a mission to support the Cameroonian military’s counter-terrorism efforts.
Families sat eagerly in the bleachers of McGrath gymnasium, waiting to welcome their loved ones home.
Emily Dunaway couldn’t wait to show her husband just how much their son Andrew had grown. Andrew was born three weeks before his dad deployed.
“He’s tripled in weight since then,” she said, “so a little different when my husband left.”
Colonel Shane Morgan praised soldiers’ efforts, saying, “They were well trained, well led, and these soliders were ready for any mission our nation required.”
Additional units will deploy to Africa in the coming months.
