Southern Cameroons Crisis: attack on police in Fundong leaves 3 injured
Two police officers and a civilian were injured on October 28, 2026, when armed men attacked three security and government sites in Fundong, the administrative capital of Boyo Division in Cameroon’s Northwest Region. The attack occurred around 8:30 a.m. and targeted the town’s police station, the Alim security post, and the residence of the Boyo senior divisional officer, according to a statement issued the same day by Northwest Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique.
The governor said the attackers entered the town and hid in surrounding vegetation before opening fire from several directions. Security forces returned fire and reportedly forced the gunmen to retreat.
All three injured people received medical treatment. The governor’s statement did not specify the severity of their injuries and reported no deaths. It also provided no information on the number of attackers or whether any of them were killed or wounded. Governor Lele Lafrique condemned the attack and urged residents to remain calm, stay alert, and cooperate with security forces to help identify and locate those responsible. Although he described the attackers as “terrorists,” his statement did not attribute the operation to any identified armed group.
