Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC SA) and ALO Technologies have retained 99 drivers for the planned rollout of the Taxi Go airport transport service in Douala and Yaounde in November 2026. The latest stage of the recruitment process was completed at Douala International Airport on Sept. 2, with 49 candidates retained after interviews, tests and a review of their application files.

They join 50 drivers retained for Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport following an initial selection exercise on Aug. 20. Another seven candidates were placed on a waiting list. The Yaounde list was initially subject to verification of administrative documents, including criminal-record certificates.

The selected drivers are now moving to the training stage before the fleet is officially deployed at the two airports. In Yaounde, training is scheduled for Sept. 14-19 and will cover areas including defensive driving, passenger reception, baggage handling and security.

The selection is part of Taxi Go, a partnership between state-owned airport operator ADC SA and private technology company ALO Technologies. The project is intended to modernize ground transport at Cameroon’s two main international airports and is being implemented under ADC’s 2023-2028 Strategic Development Plan, which includes upgrades to services offered to airport users.

“The next stage for our 49 drivers, as well as those at the Yaounde-Nsimalen airport platform, is the start of practical training sessions before the official deployment of the fleet,” ALO Technologies Managing Director A. F. Nono said.

Leasing Model Targets Vehicle Ownership

Under the project’s leasing model, drivers will not have to purchase the vehicles upfront. They will operate new BAIC X35 vehicles under two participation categories.

Drivers registered as entrepreneurs will be able to acquire ownership of their vehicles after four years of operation. They must, however, provide a CFAF 800,000 guarantee contribution.

Relief drivers can join the program without making a personal contribution. Two drivers will be assigned to each vehicle and will work on a rotating schedule covering 26 days per month.

According to project information released by ADC, fares will range from CFAF 10,000 to CFAF 100,000 depending on the service provided. Each driver will receive 25% of the value of each completed trip.

ALO Technologies will cover fuel, vehicle maintenance, repairs and washing. The company also plans to establish a 300-square-meter washing and parking facility at each airport.

Drivers and their families will receive health insurance, while the vehicles will be covered by comprehensive insurance for four years. A replacement vehicle is also planned when a car is involved in an accident.

The vehicles will be equipped with Teltonika tracking modems and Wi-Fi. Passenger insurance will include civil liability coverage and protection against luggage loss.

Security Services Involved in Recruitment

The Douala selection commission was chaired by the airport’s director, Jacob Mbargaso. It included representatives of the police, gendarmerie, Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, territorial surveillance and external intelligence services. Officials responsible for airport operations, concessions, safety and security also took part.

A similar commission handled the Yaounde recruitment exercise, which attracted 138 applicants. Candidates were assessed on their physical presentation, oral expression, knowledge of the Highway Code and moral conduct.

Fifty-seven candidates passed the initial assessment. Fifty were retained, while seven were placed on the waiting list. The list was initially subject to verification of administrative documents by police representatives serving on the selection commission.

Taxi Go was opened to traditional airport taxi drivers already operating at the two airports as well as other Cameroonian applicants under ADC’s public call for candidates. The new branded fleet is scheduled to begin operating in November as part of the planned overhaul of taxi services at Douala and Yaounde-Nsimalen international airports.
